OBSERVATIONSWhat the colors mean
Use the lower category from ceiling and visibility: VFR above 3,000 ft AGL and above 5 SM; MVFR 1,000–3,000 ft or 3–5 SM; IFR 500 to below 1,000 ft or 1 to below 3 SM; LIFR below 500 ft or below 1 SM. Ceiling is the lowest BKN / OVC layer or vertical visibility. These are weather categories, not a determination of legal or safe flight. Green can still mean strong winds, thunderstorms or other hazards.

When does it look more pleasant?
DERIVED SURFACE OUTLOOKCompare upcoming daylight hours at the selected airport. This does not predict flight category, cloud clearance or conditions along a route.
How the outlook is calculated
Looks for consecutive NWS hourly periods over the next 48 hours flagged as daytime. Each hour must have a known wind speed at or below your limit, a known rain chance at or below your limit, and no thunderstorm mention in the short forecast. At least two consecutive hours are needed. Windows are ranked by lowest average (wind in knots + rain chance ÷ 5), with longer windows breaking ties. The top three non-overlapping windows are shown.
These are surface forecasts, not aviation forecasts. Gusts, crosswinds, ceiling, visibility, turbulence, icing, winds aloft and route hazards are not evaluated. Missing input never counts as favorable. No window is presented when the hourly feed is cached after an error or more than 6 hours past its update time. Check the TAF and official aviation products before choosing a flight time.
